WHY MOURINHO FAILED AT CHELSEA THIS SEASON - CARLO ANCELOTTI

Former Chelsea and Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti believes a lack of motivation among Chelsea players led to the team’s poor form before the sacking of Jose Mourinho. The goal.com correspondent suggested Chelsea players relaxed too much in the league which led to their poor form and subsequent sacking of Mourinho.

Chelsea were crowned English champions last season which they totally dominated but find themselves just four points above the relegation zone after last weekend’s 3 – 1 win over Sunderland.

Ancelotti told Goal.com:
That is the most difficult job for a coach because within a group, both one that is doing well and one that is doing badly, there are always problems to resolve.
When things are going well, there is a risk of relaxation; when things are going badly, obviously there is a loss of confidence.
The coach must always keep a good balance in that sense, lifting the confidence levels particularly when things don’t seem to be working.
It’s a little of this that Mourinho paid for, the fact that the team had not started like last year, when they had a tremendous desire to do well after a bad year.
This year it was exactly the opposite; he paid for the lack of motivation among the players.

Ancelotti, meanwhile, has agreed to replace Pep Guardiola as Bayern Munich boss next summer. The three time Champions League winning coach was sacked last summer despite leading the club to a 10th Champions League crown in 2014.
